Storm surge warning remains as Henri could bring gusts up to 50 mph to Cape, Islands today

Hurricane Henri’s path moved closer to Cape Cod and the Islands overnight, bringing with it the potential for stronger winds to the region. Henri is expected to make landfall late this morning somewhere between eastern Long Island and Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island as either a strong tropical storm or a lower-end Category 1 hurricane, according to the National Weather Service. It will impact Southern New England today into Monday.

Travelers take ferries between the Cape and the Islands, ahead of the approaching storm

With the threat of halted ferry service between the Cape and the Islands on Sunday, travelers picked a place to hunker down Saturday before the weather turned. The Horn family, of Gahanna, Ohio, ended their Nantucket vacation one day early so they could start their drive back to Ohio before Henri reaches New England.

Volleyball stars: 36 Cape Cod high school girls volleyball players to watch out for this fall

The Barnstable Red Hawks have been the standard for girls volleyball for over a decade now. Last season, they were crowned the Cape & Islands League Atlantic champions. Led by head coach Tom Turco, the Red Hawks have won 18 Division 1 State Championships and 25 South Sectional Championships. Turco’s teams from 2003 to 2007 set an MIAA volleyball record with 110 consecutive match victories. Their record under Turco as a head coach is 560-29, including 10 undefeated seasons. Barnstable had seven seniors graduate last season, but they also have seven returning seniors for this upcoming season.
